Fun Facts about Thanksgiving:

-          The Detroit Lions played the Chicogo Bears in 1934 in the first National Football League game held on Thanksgiving, this was also the first time that it was broadcast nationally.  The Detroit Lions have played a game on Thanksgiving ever since. 

-          In 1956 the Detroit Lions played the first ever football game that was broadcast over national TV. 

-          In 2008 the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers made the largest pumpkin pie ever recorded according to the Guinness Book of World records in Ohio, it weighed 2020 pounds and measured nearly 12 feet in length.  It was made with 900 pounds of pumpkin, 62 gallons of evaporated milk, 155 dozen eggs, 300 pounds of sugar, 7 pounds of cinnamon, 3.5 pounds of salt, 2 pounds of pumpkin spice and 250 pounds of crust.    

-          In 2011 the state of Minnesota will be the top turkey producing state with a production of 46.5 million turkeys a year. 

-          In 2007 the National Turkey Federation estimates that one-fifth of the total turkeys consumed in America (235 million/year) will be consumed on Thanksgiving. 

-          Since the mid-20th century American Presidents have spared two turkeys lives each year in a ceremony at the White House on Thanksgiving, and these two turkeys are sent to a farm for retirement.
